Hablar de la música de Tiger Army es complicado. Es hablar de música punk sensible y no estamos hablando de emo, sino de algo de mayor raíz, el rock de los 50 o mejor dicho, el rockabilly. Es imaginarse la música que se oiría en una casa encantada en medio del "far west". Donde AFI se cruzan con The Cramps encontrándose por el medio a Bad Religion y a Elvis. Ya con estas referencias nos podemos referir a su sonido con el simplificado término del psychobilly, claro que sin ceñirse a los cánones

En primer lugar decir que la banda lejos de ser un calco, guarda señas importantes de identidad como la gran relevancia del bajo (en realidad, un contrabajo percutido), las baterías tocadas a un modo básico, la tristeza que destila su punk, etc., que seguramente les hará ser cabezas de pelotón de toda una nueva ola de bandas que se apuntarán al carro del psychobilly a estas alturas. Pero hoy por hoy, tal y como está el panorama del punk-rock no podemos sino decir que AFI es al grupo que más nos recuerdan. Seguramente será solo por la similitud de las voces de Davey Havok y Nick13 pero así es.


Pero no olvidemos que Tiger Army provienen del entorno de Hellcat y Epitaph, por lo cual las referencias al hardcore melódico también están presentes.


Tiger Army son un grupo que puede dar mucho que hablar. Como ya se ha dicho, el psychobilly nunca explotó comercialmente y tal vez esta sea la hora, en un panorama del rock donde parece que los estilos y las formas de mezclarlos se agotan por momentos. En cuanto a la banda, tienen varias virtudes. Por un lado ese punto que les permite explorar el filón gótico sin caer en lo autocomplaciente, insuflando también energía vitalista a sus canciones. Y por otro, el saber reconocer el pasado del rock n roll (como pocos de sus colegas hardcore-punks lo hacen) sin caer en el simple remake.
