Elvis Hitler is the name of a psychobilly-band from Detroit,Michigan. The band was named after the moniker of their lead singer, Jim Leedy.
Band History
The band Elvis Hitler was active in the late Eighties and early Nineties. Singer Jim Leedy, also known as Elvis Hitler, guitarist John Defever, bassist Warren Defever and drummer Damian Lang played a clever mix between psychobilly and humor. This led to them having a cult following in their day. The project wasn't destined for commercial success, but live audiences were greatly entertained. The band has managed to put out three CDs on Restless Records. The band then disappeared from the public spotlight for the first time.
In 1998 however, Elvis Hitler reunited as a three piece band and played at various locations in Detroit and in Chicago. During that time, the band gave one radio interview on "U of M" radio and several live shows were recorded. Then they faded away again. Elvis Hitler once more reunited in 2003, back to being four people, playing at "The Magic Stick" club in Detroit. They played one more concert at that club on September 4th, 2004.
Their memorable hit "Green Haze" consists of the lyrics from the successful TV-show Green Acres sung to the tune of Purple Haze.
